Previous head to head is finely balanced at 1-1. However, those two matches took place 5 years ago and a lot of water passed under the bridge since then!

For the record, Magdalena Frech starts the week with a career-high rank of 86. In her last (London) tournament, she beat Camila Giorgi and Anna Schmiedlova before falling to Simona Halep.

A look at the profile of Frech reveals she’s an all-court player. In fact, her win ranges from 59% (hard court) to 69% (carpet), and on clay, she’s 62%.

Frech arrives here on the back of an 18/19 YTD, of which she’s 6/6 on clay. With regards to playing on this surface, the 24-year-old made it to the semi-final of this year’s Saint-Malo. If we dig a bit deeper, in 202 she won a W60 in Prague and lists Linette and Kvitova amongst her scalps.

Meanwhile, Anna Kalinskaya is another player who brings a career-high rank. In her case, following a 17/15 the Russian starts the week at rank 73.

In the first round of Lausanne, the 23-year-old defied the odds to beat Tamara Zidansek. However, in her next match, she was beaten by the finalist Olga Danilovic (6/3 3/6 6/3).

We class Kalinskaya as an all-rounder, with her game being adaptable to most surfaces. Finally, during the current season, she’s beaten Karolina Pliskova, Qinwen Zheng, and Alize Cornet.

From what we witnessed in Lausanne, Kalinskaya is about to raise her game. One thing is certain, she’s got more on her racket than Frech! With everything considered, these odds are more than fair!
