HAYDOCK HURDLE – BIG BETTING INTEREST

 3:15 BYKER 9/2 (5’s Exchanges)

A horse rated 103 on the flat should be capable of more than 123 in this sphere. While BRENTFORD HOPE had a slow start to his hurdling career, he seems to be getting it together now.

In fact, Harry Denham’s 6-year-old made it all to win back-to-back hurdles. However, while a strong case can be made for the son of CAMELOT, the opposite is also true. With all due respect, BRENTFORD HOPE beat nothing in those Novice hurdles.

Furthermore, he won’t be getting a cheap lead today, and it won’t take much to put him on the back foot. My final word, I would neither want to bet nor lay the early favourite!

Meanwhile, PARAMOUNT needs to bounce back from a poor run and TEDDY BLUE is handicapped to the hilt. The more I dig into the race, the stronger my feeling for BYKER.

While Charlie Byrne’s trained 4-year-old wasn’t as good (76) on the flat, he’s better at this game! For the record, if we go back three races, the 4-year-old won a 21-runner race at Naas. He’s since finished 3rd of 6 in a better race before just being touched off in a big Cheltenham handicap.

In summary, the selection will be suited best to this big field. He’s got more scope than the favourite, and he will be helped by the age allowance. Philip Byrnes takes off an additional 5 pounds and the better ground is a positive.
