FFOS LAS 3:40 MY MATE TED 9/1

While going reports are becoming increasingly unreliable, I actually believe that the ground in Ffos Las will be soft. The distance of this race is a little over seven furlongs, and chances are they will race in the middle of the track. In short, I’m not expecting any hard luck stories at the Welsh meeting.

KYNSA should handle the ground, and under normal circumstances, the distance wouldn’t be an issue. However, the 3-year-old filly hasn’t been settling, and it’s hard to imagine her getting much cover in this race. Besides, based on her efforts to date, she’s short odds and of no interest.

The one who is strongly supported in the early betting is ISLAND NATIVE. Despite being put up 4 pounds for placing, the son of CARVAGGIO is lightly raced and on a fair handicap mark. With Oisin Murphy down for the ride, the grey should be thereabouts.

Meanwhile, COVERT MISSION won his last race comfortably. The 5-year-old is due to go up 8 pounds for that 2L win, but on this occasion, he’s taking the fixed 5 pounds penalty. For the record, if we do the maths he’s 3 pounds well in. However, while he’s proven on the ground and distance, the fact is he’s never won back-to-back races.

As for my idea of the value in this race, it’s got to be MY MATE TED! Roger Teal’s 4-year-old won just one of his 15 races, but it was from an 11-pound higher mark than today. Also, the grey gelding is 6 pounds lower on turf, and I believe he will be suited to the conditions today.

While the selection disappointed in his last race, wearing a first-time visor could have been the reason. On this occasion, cheekpieces are the chosen aid! Breeding points to the testing ground being positive, and he’s got enough decent form in the book. Finally, David Probert is a good booking, and 9/1 is the icing on the cake!
