Italy’s Serie A teams are doing particularly well in this season’s European competitions. In the Europa League, both AS Roma and Juventus will represent the league tonight.

Juventus are just seventh in the league table, and with 9 matches remaining 8 points outside the top 4 places. Suffice to say, qualifying through the league for next season’s Champions League is going to be difficult!

However, we need to cut the players some slack! After all, their predicament can partly be explained by the Federation imposing a 15-point deduction. In fact, if the Old Lady was given those 15 points they would be 2nd in Serie A.

While the hosts lost (2-1) their weekend match in Lazio, the result should have been different. For the record, our xG on that game was 1.09 – 1.98 in favor of Juvi!!

To be fair, Alegri’s men have been in good form of late. Moreover, they had only lost one of their previous 14 matches, and during that phase had beaten Lazio and Inter!

In the last round of this competition, Juventus beat Freiburg by an aggregate of 3-0. And, while they lost Champions League matches to Portuguese club, Benfica, those fixtures came at a bad time!

As for team news, Moise Kean returns from his weekend suspension. Mattia De Sciglio is back in training and should be in the squad today. Paul Pogba is injured, while Leandro Paredes won’t be included following his public fight with the coach.

The biggest issue facing Alegri is choosing his starting XI from a deep squad. Nevertheless, that is a luxury problem, and we expect the core of the team to be filled with familiar faces.

Meanwhile, Sporting made it to this stage by beating EPL leaders Arsenal. With that said, the Gunners had prioritized the league, and the actual form should be treated with caution.

For today’s match, the visitors are without suspended midfielder Manuel Ugarte. Frontmen Jovane Cabral and Paulinho are sidelined with injuries, meaning Youssef Chermiti will lead the line. Ruben Amorim traveled with the team and he should at least make the bench!

We have plenty of respect for Sporting, and Juventus lost two Champions League matches to a Portuguese club. With that said, that was then and this is now! The Old Lady is back in business, and they have enough quality to win this fixture easily.
