3:10 HECOULDBETHEONE 5/1
MARTATOR should find a race in due course, but I can’t imagine it being today. The 6-year-old will handle the easy ground, but he’s not the most natural of jumpers. Venetia Williams waited 16 races before changing codes. While that might not sound a lot to the passive gambler, it’s a lot for a French Bred!
As with many of the stable runners, I think ETALON will need a run. Over the past fortnight, Dan Skelton had 8 winners from 64 runners. A 13% strike rate is average at best, and it’s lower for his seasonal debutants
MR GREY SKY did well to win his last two races. The lightly raced 9-year-old won 6 of his 14 races, and he’s 2 from 3 over fences. Ciaren Gething’s mount is only 3 pounds higher, so he could place in this better race.
GALLIC GEORDIE is another last-time out winner, but he’s on a career-high handicap mark and that will make things harder. WEWILLGOWITHPLANB should improve again this season, it’s just that he’s 6 pounds higher over fences.
IN THE AIR is the youngest runner in the field, and he’s won at this course. My issue with the five-year-old is he pulled up last time out, and he prefers faster ground than he will encounter today!
The one that stands out for me is HECOULDBETHEONE. At the last meeting here, Chris Gordon’s charge ran better than his placing suggested. His style of front running eliminates one of the dangers, in that he’s going to get a clear view of the fences. To cut a long story short, some slick jumping would make him hard to catch!
