Over the past fortnight, Aidan O’Brien had 10 winners from 33 runners. On paper, that’s a solid strike rate, but the fact is level stake punters would only break ‘’even’’.
For the most part, stable runners are delivering on expectations. With that said, they are often of no value and that brings us to the favorite for this race!
The lightly raced TOWER OF LONDON was an easy winner of his last race. Nevertheless, it was only a handicap and connections decided to use a 7-pound claimer.
While Ryan Moore’s mount is clearly worth stepping up in grade, I’m struggling with the ‘’even money’’. To cut a long story short, we respect the jolly but would rather lay him at short odds!
Meanwhile, Charlie Appleby had 8 winners from his last 18 runners. While 5 of those started at odds-on, the trainer is clearly good at placing his inmates.
However, in my opinion, the stables CASTLE WAY needs to find plenty. Also, he’s unproven at the distance, and I’m not convinced that his best trip will be 1M5F at a stiff track like this!!
Some early money is around for the William Haggas-trained KLONDIKE. While he’s only raced twice, the son of GALILEO will need to improve significantly. To cut a long story short, his chance is dependent on the extra distance!
As for the selection, it’s got to be SAINT GEORGE. Andrew Balding’s grey is highly regarded, and he’s been entered in a number of Group 1 & 2 races.
While the son of ROARING LION isn’t bred for long distances, he’s already proven that he gets this far! In fact, his recent 2nd in the Queen’s Vase is the standout form, and he’s still improving!
In conclusion, these odds are more than fair, and with conditions to suit we won’t be looking any further.
