LEICESTER 3:10 HATHLOOL 7/2
Habitual front-runner DANVILLE should take them along at a good clip. After fighting his jockey for most of the race at Windsor, it’s clearly a good idea to drop him back to 8F. Whether a first-time visor has a positive effect remains to be seen, albeit I’m more concerned about the stiff finish. In short, he’s not the most robust of individuals, and I can imagine him wobbling around!
Everyone seems to pick the short-priced favourite MAJESTIC FIGHTER. The son of Teofilo was only just touched-off in his last race, but he’s been raised three pounds for finishing 2nd. The jockey who rode him that day was 5-pound-claimer Ollie McSweeney, and he’s being replaced by James Doyle. Call me a sceptic, it’s just that I can’t see any value in betting the Charlton-trained three-year-old.
Meanwhile, MASTER OF COMBAT carried a big weight on his way to winning at Doncaster. The handicapper raised him 8 pounds for winning that class five race, and he’s up in grade today. While Kevin Frost’s 4 year old should be thereabouts, a couple of these should be too good!
SHALADAR is an honest type, it’s just that he’s handicapped to the hilt. Furthermore, his worst run of the season was at this track, and he might prefer the easier ground.
To make a long story short, I’m with Michael Appleby’s HATHLOOL. While this fella won his three races on the all-weather surface, his best form was on turf. In fact, in his last race, he finished strongly to be 3rd at Ascot, and he has only beaten a length. Moreover, if his jockey had gone for him earlier, he might have won.
On a positive note, Cieren Fallon is in the saddle tonight and he can be trusted to deliver.
