RACING SERVICE: 3 TIPS FOR NOTTINGHAM

RACING SERVICE: 3 TIPS FOR NOTTINGHAM

NOTTINGHAM 2:15 MERCURY DAY 3/1

GET JIGGY WITH IT hasn’t progressed. The assessor dropped the daughter of HIGHLAND REEL 7 pounds in the ratings. While I believe in her trainer Charles Hills, these types are usually worth taking on!

If this were a handicap, Saffie Osborne’s mount would receive a pound from MERCURY DAY. While the selection left the Ralph Beckett stable to join Conrad Allen (50,000 Guineas), the fillies’ new connections have found the perfect opportunity!

NOTTINGHAM 4:25 BRUNCH 13/2

Because GREAT BASKET keeps winning by small margins, he’s still on a fair handicap mark. However, the gelding will get nabbed at some stage, and I believe his winning run will end today.

The next two in the betting are course winners CRUYFF TURN and FIRST OFFICER. Tim Easterby’s 7-year-old CRUYFF TURN will appreciate the drop in grade, and he should run well. However, despite using a claiming jockey, I’m not optimistic about the chance of Jane Chapple-Hyam’s charge FIRST OFFICER. The five-year-old needs further than this, and he’s yet to win off a mark of 80.

With Michael Dods’ stable being in good form, BRUNCH should be fit & ready for his seasonal debut. Connor Beasley’s mount won 5 of his 26 races, and on this occasion, he will race from his lowest handicap mark in the past three years. Also, this is a lower-grade race than he usually contests and Nottingham is a track that should suit him best!

NOTTINGHAM 4:55 ROGUE SOLDIER 5/1

Locally trained ARDBRACCAN is entitled to go close. With that said, Michael Appleby’s mare isn’t the most prolific, and a mark of 69 isn’t a gimme! To cut a long story short, she’s short in the betting.

Recent form suggests that THE SPOTLIGHT KID is held by the favourite. On his seasonal debut, the Dean Ivory-trained 5-year-old was beaten 4.25L by the mare. A 7-pound weight pull wouldn’t be enough to force a reverse, but better ground and improved fitness are positive factors!

While ROGUE SOLDIER drifted in the betting, I expect the 4-year-old to record his 2nd win. As for my reasoning, the son of NO NAY NEVER will appreciate returning to this longer distance. Furthermore, Sean D Bowen’s 5-pound claim is a good thing, and he’s expected to be primed following a recent run!
