The ground at Huntingdon is being described as soft, and I believe that will be the case. This track drains well, so with no rain forecast, it should be good jumping ground!

The five at the foot of the betting market should be available at 100/1 and more on the betting exchanges. While the occasional big-priced runner gets into the places, I doubt it will be the case today!

It is interesting to note that the debutant DANNY’S FRIEND is going straight over hurdles. Michael Scudamore’s 5-year-old is bred to be half decent, but he’s likely to need further fences before we see the best of him.

The one advantage of LEXI MOON is the 7-pound mares allowance. However, there is nothing to suggest that she will be suited to dropping back in distance, and she needs to improve!

As for the positive with NO MORE BOLERO, it’s got to be Sam Twiston-Davies taking over in the saddle. On the downside, the 5-year-old will need to do better than he did on his hurdling debut at Sandown. Also, while the former Waldimar Hickst trained gelding won three races on the flat, he was an out-and-out stayer. With that in mind, he’s going to need further than the minimum distance on this easy track!

As for the favorite WILFUL, he won one of his three bumper races. The Jonjo O’Neill-trained gelding showed his best form when just being touched off in his last race at Catterick. Nevertheless, by keeping the son of WESTERNER to bumpers for three races, his trainer is half suggesting he’s not the most natural of jumpers!

With all due respect to the others, I’m expecting BALTAMBAR to outclass the lot. Since finishing 6th/14 on his hurdling debut, the son of ALMANZOR joined the up-and-coming Harry Denham.

When trained by Michael Bell, the 5-year-old won a Chepstow maiden. Furthermore, he was rated a solid 80 in that sphere, and he’s the type to do much better at this game.

In summary, Denham should be able to get more out of his recruit. The selection is best equipped to handle two miles on this track, and I can’t imagine that the ground will be overly testing. Finally, this is a winnable race, and Paul O’Brien can be trusted to give him a good ride!
