RACING SERVICE FOR WINNERS – VALUE TIP

NEWBURY 2:30 POSTMARK 5/1

In bumpers, DIAMOND EGG had marginally better bumper form than the favourite BOOM BOOM. Furthermore, Nicky Henderson’s charge jumped poorly and finished 30 lengths behind the winner.

From what I’ve watched of the 5-year-old, he’s one of the stable’s lesser lights. Also, he’s bred to stay further than two miles, and the exercise is to get him handicapped before moving up in distance.

Meanwhile, on his hurdling debut, Brendan Powell was unseated from DIAMOND EGG. In all honesty, I thought his jockey should have recovered from the slight peck on landing. For the record, Chris Gordon is reverting to Tom Cannon today, but I’m not convinced that the gelding is a natural jumper.

Having had three bumper races before making the switch is one reason, whereas the other is he was taken wide on his hurdling debut. That would insinuate that the jockey had been instructed to give him a clear view of the obstacles. Lastly, a first-time visor isn’t sure to help his cause, and he’s short in the betting.

On the flat, ARISTOBULUS won three of his five races and one of them was for his new trainer. His handicap mark (75) in that category would give him a chance, it’s just that I prefer POSTMARK.

If this was a flat race the Milton Harris 4-year-old would be giving 14 pounds to the latter. While he was disappointing on his hurdling debut, the sticky ground was a valid excuse. The son of POSTPONED can leave that form behind on this fast ground, and he’s got the scope to do well at this game.

With everything considered, these odds are of great value.
