MARKET RASEN 2:50 SCIPION 7/2

Incidentally, both FIDUX and GO ON CHEZ are out of the race. The latter would have been my idea of the danger to the selection, thus the strength of the bet is greater.

BETTY BALOO likes the track, and she won her last race over CD by an easy 15L. Nevertheless, this is a tougher assignment and she’s been raised another 7 pounds by the handicapper. To cut a long story short, she needs a career best!

FRENCHY DU LARGE is still being held back by the handicapper, and I would install him at bigger odds than 11/4.

Meanwhile, Tom Lacey trained SCIPION is the one with the most scope. The seven-year-old won two of his nine races, and he’s still improving. While the 7-year-old is carrying topweight, the useful claimer Jay Tidball is taking off 7 pounds. Racing right-handed on an undulating course is fine, and so is the distance and ground!

CHESTER 2:05 BARASHNIKOV 9/2

SAVVY VICTORY is down in grade, and he wasn’t beaten far on his seasonal debut Kempton Listed race. The ground isn’t an issue for the favorite, and Ryan Moore is a good booking! However, the 4-year-old colt went up 3 pounds for finishing 5th of 7 and that is a bit harsh!

BARASHNIKOV must have a big chance of following up on last year’s win. The 7-year-old races from the same handicap mark (91), and on this occasion he will be helped by a 3-pound claimer.

As a hold-up runner, the Barron gelding will be requiring a clear run. On that note, Billy Loughnane’s mount should have the race run to suit!

CHESTER 2:40 MUJTABA 7/2

Five times winner POINT LONSDALE represents the top stable of Aiden O’Brien. The 4-year-old comes into this on the back of winning a Group 3 at the Curragh. However, this is a tougher assignment, and odds of 6/5 are unappealing.

Despite this being his seasonal debut, MUJTABA is a better alternative. William Haggas will have the son of DUBAWI ready, and he will benefit from the testing ground.

CHESTER 4:20 CLARITUDO 13/2

I can’t get excited by the Gordon Elliott trained BY YOUR SIDE. While he improved over the jumps, a mark of 75 isn’t a gimme!

On his first race of the season, Kaiya Fraser gave CLARITUDO a good ride to win at Pontefract. Based on his superiority that day a 6-pound rise is fair. The 4-year-old is suited by soft ground and distance is spot on, and he will benefit from the guaranteed strong pace.

ASCOT 2:25 BENY NAHAR ROAD 7/2

We bet COQUELICOT when she won at Nottingham, and we opposed her when beaten at odds of 8/15. Since the Anthony Honeyball runner is up another 4 pounds, her place at the head of the market makes her worth taking on.

As for George Boughey trained EYTEYAT, he needs to prove himself under these testing conditions. Furthermore, a big weight will make it harder for the 4-year-old!

For the most part, BENY NAHAR ROAD stands out from the crowd. While the recently acquired gelding joined a new stable, being with Paul Nicholls is positive!

Since last running Tom Buckley’s mount was gelded and he’s had a wind operation. The extra distance and easy ground are other positives.

ASCOT 4:45 LOVE AFFAIRS 12/1

At biggish odds, the one that interests me the most is LOVE AFFAIRS. Amy Murphy’s filly is highly regarded, and she’s an advantage by testing ground. While the SHOWCASING daughter was disappointing in her last race, the all-weather surface didn’t suit. All-in-all, a mark of 82 is fair and odds of 12/1 are insulting.

ASCOT 5:20 DOCKLANDS 7/4

Since the last racing, PRINCE OF ZENDA was gelded. Hugo Palmer decided to equip the son of KINGMAN with a first-time visor, and the booking of William Buick suggests they mean business!

However, there is a fly in the ointment, namely DOCKLANDS. Hayley Turner’s mount never needed to be let off a tight rein when winning at Kempton. While that was on an all-weather surface, switching to soft ground on turf should suit better again.

For the record, he was a close 2nd on good-soft at Haydock, and his breeding suggests underfoot conditions are ideal.
