While Rayo Vallecano lost back-to-back fixtures, this looks like a great opportunity for the hosts to return to winning ways.
Before the International break, The Red Sashes lost 1-0 to Real Betis. From a data perspective, Betis were marginally better. However, a draw would have been a fairer result, and the visitors would have been disappointed with the scoreline.

For the record, in 2022/23, Rayo took 49 points divided 32/17, and a year earlier 42 points divided 29/13. To cut a long story short, we have no reason to believe this season will be any different!
From what we understand, only Jose Angel Pozo is sidelined for the hosts. Since Rayo performed well in the last game, it’s hard to imagine coach Francisco making many wholesale changes. With that said, all of Raul de Tomas, Isi Palazon, and Pathe Ciss were substituted, meaning their positions in the starting XI are under threat.
ALAVES STRUGGLE ON THE ROAD
Meanwhile, season-promoted Alaves started the campaign with two wins and two defeats. The Basque team took their 6 points were taken from home matches against Sevilla and Valencia. Whereas, the losses came away in Getafe (1-0) and Cadiz (1-0). Incidentally, the visitors took 46 of last season’s 71 points at home, and we expect that parity to be the same again!
On paper, the Babazorros are one of the weaker teams in the division. In fact, Luis Garcia Plaza is working with just a 23-man squad, and Atletico loanee Guiana Simeone is injured!

In summary, home advantage is a big factor, and the quality of the Rayo Vallecano squad is stronger. While the hosts will want to play on the front foot, it’s comforting to know Alaves failed to score in two away games!
