ROYAL UNION vs GENK – PICK
Royale Union is under the same ownership as EPL club Brighton. Suffice it to say, Tony Bloom acquiring the Unionists is a massive positive. In fact, the owner of Star Lizard took this team from the 2nd division to 2nd in last year’s Jupiler league.
As some of you will know, the owner is one of the most successful gamblers ever. Not only that, the data his company acquire for betting is used to acquire the right players. On that note, Saint Gilloise are again proving competitive without spending any money!
As it stands, the hosts took13 points from seven games. Union is fifth in the table, and they won three of their last four games against Waregem (1-3), Anderlecht (2-1) and Kortrijk (2-1).
However, Karel Geraerts side was put in its place by both Mechelen (3-0) and Antwerp (4-2), and something is missing.
Meanwhile, Genk lost their season opener to Club Brugge (3-2), but since then Wouter Vranken’s men have responded positively. Moreover, the Smurfs took 16 points from their last 6 games, and they have been scoring for fun.
For the record, Vranken’s team put four goals past Seraing, Eupen and Waregem, and they also scored 3 against St Truiden. While Genk failed to score in the last round, that can be put down to one of those things. After all, they had a load of chances, but some excellent goalkeeping and stout defending kept them out!
If we were to value the players of these cubs, Genk would come out with a big lead. With all due respect to the Unionists, they don’t have the class of their more prolific opponents.
