SPARTA ROTTERDAM vs NIJMEGEN – PREVIEW
DUTCH EREDIVISIE
We recommended a nice bet on Sparta Rotterdam to beat last-round opponent Heerenveen, and they followed through! In fact, the Castle Lords won that match 1-3, and they were 0-3 up on 62 minutes. While the hosts pulled one back on 71 minutes, the hit job was complete!
With 7 points from three games, Sparta tops the Eredivisie. However, it’s still early days, and beating soft opponents isn’t something we should get excited about.
Interestingly, Jeroen Rijsdijk’s team won both matches on the road, whereas the one at home to Feyenoord ended 2-2. Nevertheless, drawing with the Champions was an excellent result, albeit they were fortunate!
For the record, against Feyenoord, the hosts managed just 28% possession. While part of the reason can be apportioned to protecting an early lead, the fact is Sparta was fortunate.
Indeed, their opponent had a goal struck off for a minimal offside, and they would have been disappointed with just two goals from 24 attempts. Lastly, the xG from that game points to the visitors being 1.6 goals better!
GREAT AWAY TEAM
Meanwhile, Nijmegen started the season with back-to-back defeats. The first of those was at home to Excelsior, in a match where they allowed a 3-2 lead to become 3-4 for the visitors. Incidentally, the winner was scored on 90+9 minutes after some poor defending!
A 2-1 defeat in Heracles followed, and NEC was again guilty of allowing a lead to turn into defeat. As a consequence, coach Rogier Meijer decided it was time to replace the luckless Van Roolj in favor of Pereira for the match against Waalwijk, and a 3-0 win was the reward!
In the last round, NEC battered their opponent with a dominant display and if anything the scoreline could have been bigger!
Traditionally, the visitors are even better on the road, and we expect them to prove that this evening!
BET: NIJMEGEN +0.5 (double chance)
