Lucia Bronzetti is 21/20 this year, which compares to 37/26 in 2022 and 53/23 a year earlier.
Nevertheless, if we go back to the end of May, the Italian player won a clay tournament in Rabat. In doing so, she beat Rebecca Peterson, Tatjana Maria, Alycia Parks, Sloane Stephens, and Julia Grabher.
Another season highlight for the 24-year-old included reaching the final of Bad Homburg. While she succumbed to Katerina Siniakova, it was a strong performance from someone with limited grass court experience.
More recently, things haven’t gone particularly well for Bronzetti. In fact, she was beaten in the rest round of London and Palermo, and losing to Erika Andreeva goes down as disappointing.
The thing with Bronzetti is she’s not the most consistent player on tour. However, once she gets into full swing she can reach a high performance level!
In March of 2022, Tamara Zidansek peaked at a career-high rank of 22. Following last season’s loss of form (22/25), the Slovenian dropped to rank 172! As for the current season, she’s 26/18 but remains at a lowly rank of 139.
To be fair, Zidansek holds a 73.4% strike rate on clay. She’s a former winner of this tournament, and during that same year (2021) reached the semi-final of Paris.
For the record, the highest-ranked player Zidansek beat this season was Linda Fruhitiova (55). Also, only 3 of her 26 wins came against the top 100 players, and most were in qualifying or at low-level tournaments!
To cut a long story short, while the 25-year-old needs to find something extra. Last year’s visit ended in the first round, and we expect the same today!
