TWO RACING TIPS FOR WANNABE BETTING PROFESSIONALS

NEWCASTLE 2:50 RACEVIEW ROAD 4/1

At Doncaster, ESPRIT DU POTIER and CHOSEN TEMPLER were pulled up in the same Grade Two race last time out. The first mentioned went a bit further, and he was 14/1 compared to 100/1 for D J Jeffrey’s 6-year-old. Since the jolly is proven on heavy ground, it’s hard to imagine a reversal.

However, in receipt of 7 pounds, hurdling debutant RACEVIEW ROAD is a better alternative. Since last running, this three-time point-to-point winner changed stables to George Bewley. I could also point to plenty of future winners coming out of those P-2-P races, and his 3rd in an NHF race working out well!

Since he won one of his races on heavy ground and he’s bred (Milan) to handle the same, conditions are hardly a barrier. Finally, the gelding’s last race was just 38 days ago, thus we don’t need to worry about fitness!

NEWCASTLE 3:20 LIBBY 11/2

I admire loyal people and no doubt Lucinda Russell can be put into that category. Nevertheless, if I’m being analytical, I have to question whether her persistence in using Steve Mulqueen is a good one! In my opinion, Mulqueen is a liability, and last week’s performance on I WISH YOU (2nd) was laughable!

In this instance, the trainer is legging up the jockey on TOROSAY, and I for one won’t be betting! Stable companion SO THEY SAY is due to go off as the short-priced favourite. The 8-year-old is in good form and she’s entitled to go well for Derek Fox.

Another jockey I struggle with is Bruce Lynn, and in this race, the 3-pound claimer is riding GIPSY LEE ROSE. To be fair, the mare wins her share of races, but I want to take her and the others on with LIBBY. Rebecca Menzies is responsible for the 5-year-old, and she’s booked Jamie Hamilton for the ride.

Despite coming from a flat & hurdling campaign, the HIGHLAND REEL daughter made a solid debut over fences. She would have been closer to LILITH if she hadn’t been badly hampered, and one bad mistake was another factor.

Something else that stood out in that last race was the mare hanging left-handed on a right-handed track. That is something that she can put right on this anti-clockwise track.

While the selection doesn’t have the most convincing profile, she’s got an engine. Also, she handles heavy ground, and she’s been dropped another three pounds by the handicapper. In what amounts to a winnable race, we have a working man’s price!
