WASHINGTON

XIYU WANG vs LIUDMILLA SAMSONOVA

As we mentioned at the beginning of the tournament and in our shorts, neither Simona Halep or Victoria Azarenka would be trying. With that in mind, it was no surprise to see them both knocked out at short odds.

In yesterday’s match between Xiyu Wang, Azarenka should have stayed at home. It is embarrassing watching the Belorussian’s abuse of the tournament, albeit it’s nothing new.

For the record, the only reason we didn’t tip against the hotshots was that they have a habit of retiring when things look awkward, and it was indeed the case with Halep!

To make a long story short, Liudmilla Samsonova is having one of her better tournaments. In the last round, she sent Emma Raducanus packing, and that was after beating Tomljanovic and Mertens. Take your pick, all of those wins were excellent efforts, and in this type of form, she’s going to be hard to stop!

BET: LIUDMILLA SAMSONOVA -3

Odds: 1.94

SAN JOSE

PAULA BADOSA GIBERT vs DARIA KASATKINA

Daria Kasatkina reversed a recent trend to get last-round opponent Aryna Sabalenka. After losing the first set (4/6), things didn’t look good for the Russian. However, that changed in the 2nd set and by the third Sabalenka was fully cooked.

Kasatkina is having a good week, and it started by beating Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina. After a slow start in that match, it was plain sailing in the next two sets. We don’t need to discuss beating Taylor Townsend because that was always going to be relatively straightforward.

To make a long story short, Kasatkina is in top form and she’s got the game to frustrate today’s opponent.

Paula Badosa Gibert raised her level to beat Cori Gauff, with the first set tie break being the decisive moment. However, the American made it easy, and if that first set ended differently so would the semi-finalist!

Kasatkina is in the want-it box, and that’s enough for us to call this bet!

BET: DARIA KASATKINA

Odds: 2.07
