1:20 FLYING FORTUNE 7/2

With a double penalty, 117-rated PADDY DE POLE needs to find plenty. The Paul Nicholls’ trained gelding is giving 11 & 17 pounds to the other two principals, and that’s a tall order!

According to the assessor, SPEED DAVIS should be dead-heating with PADDY THE POLE. However, I expect Donald McCain’s lightly raced point-to-point/NHF winner to progress past the Nicholls-trained 5-year-old, but not win!

GALE MAHLER won her last three races, including back-to-back bumpers! Adrian Keatley’s mare won her first hurdle comfortably, for which she’s penalised 6 pounds. It makes us want to take on the favourite with FLYING FORTUNE.

The Peter and Michael Bowen trained mare won two bumper races and set better figures than the favourite. While the SOLDIER OF FORTUNE daughter hasn’t been an instant hit of timber, her recent half-length 2nd to HOSTILE HOTELIER augurs well.

In conclusion, the selection will benefit from the weight she receives from the others, and further improvement ensures these odds are more than fair!

1.50 WILL CARVER 100/30

1.50 WILL CARVER 100/30

I’m not convinced HYLAND is the most natural of jumpers! While the grey won on his chasing debut, he did make mistakes. Also, he might have benefitted from WAY OUT unseating his rider, and this is a harder race in which he’s conceding weight!

RISKINTHEGROUND is on the upgrade and he gets into this race with a nice racing weight. Nevertheless, the Skelton-trained 7-year-old is up in grade, and I want to take him and the others on with WILL CARVER.

While Nico De Boinville chose to ride HYLAND in favour of WILL CARVER, I expect the 9-year-old to prove him wrong. Despite his age, Nicky Henderson’s lightly raced gelding jumped well to win at Cartmel, and he can improve again!
