The head-to-head is 1-1, but both those matches were played on a hard court!
This will probably be the last season for Alize Cornet. The 33-year-old is just 7/11 this year, and her big efforts will be focused on doing well at the remaining Grand Slams!
While Cornet is efficient on the surface, her recent efforts leave a lot to be desired. Furthermore, she’s not done much at this tournament since winning it in 2013!
Viktoriya Tomova does have her limitations, but at the right level, she’s more than capable. Also, the Bulgarian comes into this tournament just three ranking places below her career-high rank of 73.
Tomova will be fine with the surface, and back in April she won a W80 on clay. Season wins over Clara Tauson, Tereza Martincova, Anna Konjuh, and Kaia Kanepi auger well!
