WTA INDIAN WELLS – THURSDAY PICKS
SORANA CIRSTEA vs KIMBERLEY BIRRELL
After winning her two qualifying matches, Kimberley Birrell is closing in on the top 100. Nevertheless, she’s up against a tough opponent today, and we believe she’s going to struggle!
While Birrell won her last match against Nao Hibino, we expected her to complete it in straight sets! The Australian got there in the end but losing that 2nd-set (2/6) points to a lack of focus.
Sorana Cirstea isn’t one for the mortgage money, and she’s just 4/6 this season. Nevertheless, the 32-year-old was once ranked 21, and on her last visit here she made it to the 4th round.
To be fair, in 2023, the Romanians only lost to good players. Furthermore, she’s beaten the likes of Haddad Maia, Kanepi, and Giorgi.
Based on the data we have at hand, these odds about Cirstea are massive!
BET: SORANA CIRSTEA
Odds: 1.87 WON

EMMA RADUCANU vs DANKA KOVINIC
Since winning the US Open as an 18-year-old, it’s all gone wrong for Emma Raducanu. Unfortunately, it’s been one injury after another, and with some illness in between.
Nevertheless, the Brit is still a player of great potential, and she’s been working very hard for the challenge ahead.
While Danka Kovinic won their only meeting, that match at the 2022 Australian Open happened at the wrong time. With all due respect to the player from Montenegro, she doesn’t have the game or potential of her opponent.
We know Raducanu is great at preparing, catch her today!
BET: EMMA RADUCANU -1.5 sets
Odds: 2.05 – WON

WTA INDIAN WELLS – THURSDAY PICKS
JASMINE PAOLINI vs TATJANA MARIA
At this tournament year, Jasmine Paolini made it to the third round. On that occasion, she beat Katie Boulter and Aryna Sabalenka before losing against Viktorija Golubic.
If we go back another year. she made the same stage and one of her victims was Elise Mertens! While the Italian is better on clay courts, she clearly likes it in Indian Wells
Tatjana Maria will always give it a go, and the working mother won’t lie down without a fight. Nevertheless, on her last three visits here, the 35 years lost her opening match.
Paolini should be good enough.
BET: JASMINE PAOLINI -2 games
Odds: 1.91 – LOST

LAUREN DAVIS vs MARYNA ZANEVSKA
Lauren Davis had a great start to the year. In fact, the 29-year-old won her first WTA 250 tournament since 2017. In Hobart, the American qualified through two rounds before beating Sloane Stephens, Xinyu Wang, and Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
However, since picking up that trophy, Davis is just 4/4. One of those defeats was a 3rd-set retirement, while the latest loss in Dubai was to Kristina Mldenovic. On a positive note, the hard-working Lauren is back in the top fifty. And, she’s twice made it to the 4th round of Indian Wells.
On the downside, since 2018 Davis has just 2/4 at this tournament. A delve into the American’s data points to hard court and grass being her least favored surface.
Meanwhile, the highly talented Maryna Zanevska can be rated higher than her ranking of 78. After all, with the need to look after her body, the 29-year-old is unable to take on a full program.
In 2023, Zanavska made it to the semi-final of Lyon and won three matches in Hobart. Also, she’s claimed the scalps of Anastasia Potapova, Elise Mertens, and Shuai Zhang.
In the backend of 2022, the Belgium player won a tournament in Rouen. Other season highlights included making it to the semi-finals of both Bucharest and Hamburg.
On her last visit here, Maryna lost in the first round to Marta Kostyuk. Nevertheless, the match went the distance, and her opponent needed a tiebreak and a 7/5 to advance.
Whatever happens, we are convinced that Maryna Zanevska is underrated in the betting market!
BET: MARYNA ZANEVSKA
Odds: 2.59 – VOID (Match canceled)

MARKETA VONDROUSOVA vs REBECCA MARINO
Marketa Vondrousova is a class act! While her current rank (105) suggests otherwise, the 23-year-old is a natural for the top 20.
In fact, we would rate the Czech player even higher, and her recent efforts suggest she’s ready to rebound.
For the record, Vondrousova leads Rebecca Marino 2-0. While those matches were played in 2018/19, both ended in straight sets.
On past visits to Indian Wells, Marketa made the fourth round (twice) and a QF. Also, she beat players such as Halep, Ostapenko, Kasatkina, and Kontaveit!
Marino can play, and for the most part, she’s a reliable player who won’t go down without a fight. Nevertheless, the difference in playing ability is massive, and it’s the reason we are taking Marketa to complete in double quick time.
BET: MARKETA VONDROUSOVA -1.5 sets
Odds: 1.90 (big bet). EASY WINNER (6/2 6/2)

SOFIA KENIN vs SLOANE STEPHENS
Second-guessing the well-being of Sloane Stephens isn’t an easy task. The former number three is hit & miss, and over the past few years, it’s more of the latter!
In fact, Sloane hasn’t played well at this tournament since 2015, and on her last two visits, she’s been ejected in the first round.
Sofia Kenin is another player with something to prove. Nevertheless, Kenin is only 24 years old, and we need to recognize she’s already won $8 million in prize money.
To be fair, Kenin had some tough opponents this year, and she did at least beat Samsonova, Xinyu Wang, Maryna Zanevska, Anhelina Kalinina, and Lin Zhu. All of those players set a good standard, and even in defeat, Kenin took Gauff and Kudermetova close.
We are taking our chance on Kenin.
BET: SOFIA KENIN
Odds: 1.96
