WTA MADRID – FINAL PREVIEW

IGA SWIATEK vs ARYNA SABALENKA

They say the cream always rises to the top, and that’s what’s happened in Madrid. The two highest-ranked players are heading into the final!

If we take into consideration past meetings, Iga Swiatek leads the head-to-head 5-2. For the record, that number changes to 3-0 on red clay, with all three matches ending 2-0.

As for the current tournament, Aryna Sabalenka won four of her five matches in straight sets. Nevertheless, she failed to impress and was made to work hard by both Sorana Cirstea & Maria Camila Osorio Serrano. Incidentally, the 3-setter was against Mayar Sherif, and for that match, Sabalenka was betting odds of 1.08.

While Aryna made light work of Maria Sakkari, her opponent lived up to her reputation as a choker! In fact, in the first-set Sakkari had a her chance at 4/4, but she missed a massive chance at 0-30. Losing that point was a game-changer!

To be fair, Sabalenka is 29/4 this year and she won the Australian Open. However, her other two finals ended in defeat, and in Stuttgart when she was outplayed by today’s opponent!

Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek is number one by a wide (2000 points) margin. There is no doubt that the 21-year-old is the best WTA player on the circuit.

Since the start of 2022, Swiatek won 10 finals. Also, she’s collected close to $15 million in Prize Money. As it stands, Iga is 27/4 this year, and she arrived here on the back of winning  Stuttgart.

During the current tournament, only the eccentric Ekaterina Alexandrova took a set from Swiatek. As for the last two rounds, the Pole made both Petra Martic (6/0 6/3) and Veronika Kudermetova (6/1 6/1) look very average!

In conclusion, Sabalenka is up against it. While she’s got a free roll of the dice, it’s hard to imagine anything other than a comfortable win for Swiatek!
