Lovely jubbly!

3:40 GILBERT 7/2

SEAL OF SOLOMON is a course and distance winner who won two of his last three races. Since racing with a visor, the son of MAKE BELIEVE progressed 10 pounds! However, while Ed Dunlop’s charge is going the right way, I have three solid reasons to take him on.

Firstly, he’s short odds for a gelding of limited ability. Secondly, he’s been put up 5 pounds for winning, and the automatic penalty means he’s carrying a pound extra. Finally, he’s not the easiest of rides, and he did mess up on his penultimate start.

Gay Kellaway will be legging up Hollie Doyle on her course & distance winner CAPLA BLUE. The PHOENIX REACH filly won her last race by a nose, and she’s been upped 2 pounds by the handicapper.

While that minimal rise seems fair, the horse she beat is an exposed 9-year-old. Suffice to say, the form is dubious and she wouldn’t be an obvious candidate to follow-up.

The recent efforts of NAFEE & CRAFT IN SILK wouldn’t be good enough, and it’s hard to imagine either raising their game for today.

Meanwhile, GILBERT won three of his last four races. By keeping the winning distance short, he’s staying ahead of the handicapper.

The CITYSCAPE gelding is proven over 10 furlongs, and Yarmouth will suit his style of racing. Robert Havlin rode him to win his last race, and he wanted to keep the ride.

In summary, this race looks winnable. Receiving 9 pounds from the favourite will make it easier, and nothing else stands out!
